Mixed martial arts (MMA) action and Christian faith will combine in a new inspirational film titled “The Fight Within,” which will be released early next month.
In “The Fight Within,” rising MMA star Logan Chandler loses his identity and quits the ring when his father dies while training with him. He strikes a romantic relationship with a Christian woman and goes on a journey to turn over a new leaf and overcome his bitter past.
Logan’s newfound Christian faith is tested when a local MMA professional forces him to return to cage fighting. It is worth noting that the said professional has only lost to Logan.
“The Fight Within” executive producer and screenwriter Jim Davis told the Post that the film aims to draw not only people of faith, but also those who have no faith. He said the creators are hoping to use the movie to bring the message of hope and salvation to a wider set of audience.
“Faith films tend to draw faith audiences. This movie should also engage people with no sense of faith because inner struggle is universal,” Davis told the Post. “A cage and a fight are spot-on metaphors to show a young man coming to terms with who he is and what life brings.”
Davis added that they want viewers to leave the theaters wondering what would have happened to them if they obeyed God’s choices for them.
So far, the summer screenings of the faith-based film have garnered positive reviews from the audience. One commenter encouraged other viewers to bring their whole family to watch the movie and come out feeling uplifted. One viewer described it as “amazing,” while another called the movie as “something for everyone,” Christian Newswire relays.
“The Fight Within,” which was directed by Michael William Gordon, stars John Major Davis, Matt Leddo, and Lelia Symington. Mike Taylor, Dan Severn, and Wesley Williams are also featured in the film. The movie premieres on Aug. 12.
